Artist's Comments

Stamp for awareness of the autistic spectrum "disorders" and support of those who fall within that spectrum. We are people too who don't necessarily want a cure, because this is who we are - people with a different wiring. Sometimes things are a lot harder, but I know I personally would not want to change who I was if I could.

I think the black background works the best of the ones I tried.

I support your belief, since I have Asperger's myself. I don't like this whole 'cure' hullabaloo. Those who want a cure think they speak for us, but unfortunately only speak for their own good. People are afraid of anybody who's different from them. They feel that anything different means that it's a bad thing and must be removed. I don't like that, since it makes me feel like there's something wrong with me. If this is how they want to help, then they do not speak for me.

"Outside the circus, people were afraid of me. But I didn't hate them. I pitied them. Do you know why? Because most people will not see beyond their own two eyes."

That's exactly how I feel too.

I'm also an aspie. And it just bothers me when people are saying that how we are is wrong. There are noticable problems that come with Asperger's. And there are noticable advantages. In the world of specializations (which I personally feel we over focus on- we need more people who are jacks of all trades), aspies work better. When working with logic, aspies seem to work better. Yes, we have issues with looking people in the eye. Yes we have issues with being supersentitive to senses. But its just a different way to be. We're different, we're not any worse.

Thanks :). And I think generally there's a lot of people out there agreeing with you in the annoyance about the whole 'cure' buisness.

There are. In fact, I made a piece against the cure if you haven't seen it yet: [link]

Yay! You're so right about it. It really irritates me when they call it a disability, because just because I have bad social skills, get distracted easy, sensitive to light and sound, and am spacey all the time, does not make me a retard. If I take my time, I'm in the top of my classes. Your view on this surprised me cause my sis and I feel the same way!! Thank you for making this stamp! I really don't see how they can "cure" a person individually. I think the people who want everyone to conform just wants to "cure" society by getting rid of us people who are strange to them. Free thinkers and the like. Thanks again!!! :blowkiss:

People are people, they will have problems and will be better at other things, if we have something different about us in a trackable manor, it doesn't make it a bad thing - even if it does make it harder for us to fit into the stereotype.

:) thanks for the comment.

I heard an ad. on the radio recently and they were speaking of it like it was CANCER... It made me feel horrible. I like who I am. I see nothing wrong with it... if people look at me weird, too bad! This is who I am and they have to deal with it.
:iconatuin:
I have a friend with HFA and have been talking to someone with an autism service dog. I also personally fit into the spectrum weirdly, but...if I had the choice to medicate my problems away I still wouldn't, even knowing I almost failed out of a specialized high school because of them.
